Our Practice & Core Values
SPEKTRUM Health is dedicated to serving the medical and mental health needs of the LGBTQ+ community of Central Florida and our non-LGBTQ+ allies.
Our primary medical provider is a Nurse Practitioner (NP). What does this mean for you as a patient? NPs can diagnose medical conditions, order and interpret diagnostics testing and laboratory values, develop treatment plans, prescribe all medications, and determine successful goals and outcomes. NPs function very similar to what “medical doctors” do, but they are trained how to address health problems and promote wellness using the nursing model.
Meet Our Team
Joey (he/him) is the founder and president of SPEKTRUM Health in Orlando, FL. He has a wealth of experience working in a variety of healthcare practice settings. He has over 20 years of nursing experience and has practiced as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for over 10 years. He has formal training and experience in health policy and health law and served on the executive board for the Florida Association of Nurse Practitioners (FLANP) for 8 years. Clinically he specializes in LGBTQA+ primary care, focusing on mental health, sexual health, and gender affirming care. For fun he enjoys travel, sun, and water. He is an active member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH). He has trained with experts all over the country to fine tune his skill and expertise. Though he does not have any human children he is happy to have two four legged companions (Kimber & Speck).
Ann (she/her) specializes in mental health for the LGBTQ community! She is very experienced at working with individuals who are exploring their gender identity and/or pursuing gender transition. She has been an advocate and ally to the LGBT community since 1993! She can assist individuals with coming out (work, school, family/friends), medically necessary transition support (letters), gaining confidence, building their support system, and any/all aspects of transition. Ann can also treat a myriad of mental health issues including, but not limited to, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, personality disorders, schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, and much more.
“I do not *accept you, I *celebrate you”-Ann.
Originally from San Francisco, Denise (she/her) joins the SPEKTRUM team with much enthusiasm and passion for the LGBTQ community and its allies. She earned her doctorate in nursing from the University of Central Florida, and her specialty is caring for patients who are twelve years of age and older. Denise regards empowerment and guidance as essentials in patient care, and she practices a holistic and sensitive approach when considering patient health outcomes. Among her interests, Denise finds joy in sharing a home with her wife and their four-legged children, Charlotte & Finny, and exploring all things cultural and diverse.
Lana (she/her) is the Senior Administrative Aid for SPEKTRUM Health. She is also our in-house insurance billing coordinator, going to battle to secure insurance coverage of treatments and procedures. Her diverse background and professional history provides a great perspective to our services! She considers herself a patient advocate and enjoys helping people access and navigate the healthcare setting.
Emma (she/they) is the Administrative Coordinator for SPEKTRUM Health’s Melbourne location. As a member of the LGBTQA+ community themselves, they enjoy being able to assist patients in making them feel comfortable and getting the proper healthcare they deserve without fear of judgement. Originally from Maine, Emma lives in Melbourne with their husband and their three cats, Lynx, Chappie, and Boogie. They enjoy music, playing video games, and spending time with friends and family.
Wendy (they/them) is a Clinical Assistant working side by side with our provider team at SPEKTRUM Health. They enjoy one on one time with clients and patients and enjoy helping people feel comfortable in a new setting. Often when you see Wendy, their clinic puppy assistant (Marci) isn't far behind!
Stephanie (she/her) has served a variety of functions within our organization. She is currently our project manager, overseeing our special programs and initiatives pertaining to medication accessibility and savings. She also coordinates our collaborative relationships with our clinical pharmacy partners. She comes from a background of academia, teaching engineering for several years. She holds a PHD in engineering, but enjoys working in the field of advocacy and support for her community.
